Raonic had a tougher time in his first round match, winning a final set tiebreak over Alexei Popyrin. The Canadian was only broken once, and faced two break points, all match. Tsonga easily beat Mischa Zverev in straight sets in the first round. Tsonga didnt even facing a break point all match. It will be a huge showdown between very accomplished players as Jo-Wilfred Tsonga battles sixth seed Milos Raonic in Stuttgart.

In the victory, Struff won 84 percent of his first serve points and 37 percent of his second serve points. Seven of Struffs last 11 victories have been decided straight sets. Struff won 68 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his eight break points. Jan-Lennard Struff is coming off a straight sets win over Miomir Kecmanovic that took 16 games to decide. With a combined 29 aces in his last four sets, Struff gives himself a legit shot to make a deep run this tournament if he continues to serve at this level. Struff got 66 percent of his first serves in play, saved both of his break points and hit 15 aces. Struff has won four of his last five matches on grass court. Struff looks to win at least three matches for the third time in his last six tournaments.

Lucas Pouille clashes with third seed Daniil Medvedev in an interesting second round match in Stuttgart. Medvedev will be playing in his first grass court match of the season, but has had moderate success on grass in the past. He won in a third set tiebreak over Feliciano Lopez to set up the matchup with Medvedev. After a shaking run of form since the Australian Open, Pouille is slowly starting to find his game. Medvedevs flat groundstrokes are perfect for the low, skidding bounces that occur on grass.

It should be very close, as both player serve very well and can take advantage of short balls. Raonic leads the head to head 4-2, and has won four matches in a row against Tsonga (not including an exhibition match). These two have never played a grass court match that was not an exhibition.

When you score a 3/6 aces to double faults ration, it's usually not good enough on grass, but he did such a great job with his return that it didn't matter in the end. It just shows you that Danil had to hit it full-force in the corner to get an easy point off his serve. The match was really good overall. His next opponent will be Lucas Pouille who had a more challenging task. And he was. Pouille wasn't bothered by it and just played some tennis. Sun was going down and some parts of the court had some moisture on it. Medvedev thought it's too dangerous to play and after slipping a couple of times in those spots, he spent the rest of the match arguing with the officials about suspending the match and continuing it tomorrow. Lucas adapted better to the changing playing conditions and that is why he was victorious in the end. He kept Medvedev to measly 61% points won behind his serve, despite his 19 aces. Many great rallies, highlight moves, hard-fought points... After eliminating dangerous grass court player in Feliciano Lopez, he ran into #3 seed Danil Medvedev in the second round. Granted, the Russian came to Stuttgart in a very questionable form, but still being considered as a real threat in these type of conditions. If not, Pouille made him work really hard for it. They really went at each other and not much was dividing them after two sets of tennis, with composure being that deciding factor in the third set.

Another day, another strong performance by Jan-Lennard Struff. Even though Kecmanovic tested him in some longer rallies with quality counter-punching, Jan had an answer for everything. Kecmanovic is no pushover by any stretch of the imagination. But, credit to Struff for finding his best tennis when it most mattered. He faced two break opportunities early in sets. He's shown that by not being giving up after set down vs Kohlschreiber. Struff feasted on his weaknesses (second serve, forehand) and punished them with no mercy. He terrorized Miomir's serve which was expected, winning 45% of returning points and 41% of returning points vs 1st serves which is a crazy stat for grass courts. Struff denied both of those break chances, while convert 4/8 of his own. But he was simply outmatched here. Mostly doing it with brilliant ball-striking, he proved once again that he is in very good form at the moment. Once Kecmanovic was threatening to break back to 2-all in the first set and the next time, he was about to jump into a 3-1 lead in the second set. The final result is not telling us the whole story, because the match was actually a little bit closer than that 6-2 6-2.
