Our Prediction:

Ballina will win

Ballina – Aghamore Match Prediction | 24-08-2019

They played Tipperary in the first round of the qualifiers at this venue where they won 1-13 to 1-10. Paddy Tally is a very good manager he knows what it takes to win and he will try everything to win this game for the Mourne County. That incidentally was their first qualifier win in 5 years. Pat Havern who scored 0-03 against Tipperary is also a good footballer, while Donal OHare and Jerome Johnston will also be looking to come up with the scores. Firstly looking at Down. In defence, they are very stable, they have players like Brendan McArdle, Darren OHagan and Kevin McKernan. Down pushed Armagh all the way in Ulster only losing out by a point 2-17 to 3-13, things could have been a lot different if they won that game.

In saying that they only lost that game by a point but some of the football played was quite poor. Darren Coen, Fergal Boland and Diarmuid OConnor will be key players in the attack. James Horans side beat New York in the Connacht quarter-final, before going on to lose to the newly crowned Connacht Champions, Roscommon. A loss here and I can see a couple of retirements from the team. Mayo have good players all over the field, Brendan Harrison, Keith Higgins, Lee Keegan, and Paddy Durcan are all excellent footballers in defence. A better performance will be expected and a win, of course, this time around. Mayo have really disappointed me this season. Aidan OShea will likely partner Matthew Ruane in midfield.

This is a highly coveted prize and were aiming to hold onto it, Dya hear!! The top couple of places are very close indeed, its looking like its going to be a fierce battle for the rest of the league. On a more important note though, we are delighted to see were in pole position for the wooden spoon ourselves. Congrats to week 1 League leader Peter Lavelle from Achill, followed closely by T McG and John Caulfield.

Often what happens with teams who sit behind the ball and leave 2 men up front is the space between the defensive line and the attackers. They are a tidy unit and will be interesting to see how they get on against the Mitchels. I seen them play in the County Cup final last Friday night. Both teams are through I expect this to be played at a leisurely pace with a bit of shadow boxing and a chance to sharpen up for the next round. This set up works well for a team like Ballagh. Every player in defense knew what their role was and the level of communication between players was top drawer, add the fact the forwards seem to be at ease at which the sometimes patient defending waiting for their defenders to turn over the ball. Sean Rice described Andy as a sweeper in his report on the county cup final but to me hes the important aspect for a team who wish to sit deep. Mitchels by a few points. In Group 1 its all sorted bar who goes into relegation play off and in my opinion Ballina and Aghamore wont have to worry too much whoever does end up there. Pacey players like Akram, Hanley and Drake (Who has really impressed the last few weeks) breaking at pace suits the game plan along with a player of Andy Moran intelligence as the link man coming deep to ensure smooth transition of the ball. Andy bridges this gap excellently. The first half display and defensive set up really impressed me about Ballagh. Tough group with big dogs Castlebar and goal machine Ballagh after gathering great momentum from going on a good run in Division 2 and also already have 2 trophies on the mantlepiece this year.

2018 Mayo Senior Football Championship

Holly Carra way ahead on the polls and should be a win for the South Mayo men if everything goes to plan. Darren Coen shot the lights out and if Holly Carra have their tails up and hes singing then hard see anything but a Holly Carra win. A draw would do Holly Carra as their score difference is a lot better. Impossible to really give Cross a chance i this game due to their extremely poor record all year. Holly-Carra for me. Holly Carra on the other hand have kept the competitive stake about them throughout the season and have been unlucky in some of their games. 1 win in competitive football this season and that came in the Micheal Walsh league. A big physical team and also well able to mix it with the big boys. I seen them play Westport last round and they impressed me. Another similar game like the Aghamore Ballina game as whats at stake is the seedings for next year along with avoiding a relegation semi final. Holly Carra are ahead of Crossmolina on the league table and also the championship table.

19 points the difference between them and Kiltane. Neutral venue my hole. Kiltane have nearly an hour to travel while Tubber have 10 mins. The Sterile atmosphere you can sometimes get in small games in HQ takes away from the event. Kiltane go to McHale park to play Ballintubber. This would have made a great game in a small pitch like Lahardane or Burrishoole. Breaffy priced at 33/1 on is indicative of how well fancied Breaffy are to take this game. A quick look at the table for Group 4 of the Senior Championship and bar a miracle Davitts are facing a relegation Semi.
